BATU HAMPAR RECREATIONAL FOREST

Location: Compartment 19 Gunung Jerai Forest Reserve.
3 km from Yan or 40 km from Alor Setar.
Accessible by road and situated near this recreational forest is a Royal Cottage that belongs to Sultan of Kedah.
Type Of Forest: Lowland Dipterocarp Forest.
Elevation : 200 – 250m a.s.l.

Special Features:
The Raga River that flows through this recreational forest is ideal for outdoor recreation activities. This area derived it’s name from the large round boulders found abundantly here.
The route to this recreational forest passes through fruit orchards, rubber estates and traditional Malay villages.
A Home Stay Village called Kampung Sungai Raga is situated nearby . The Raga river that flows through the village has won an award for being the cleanest and most beautiful river in Malaysia.
There is a wide variety of flora and fauna of lowland dipterocarp forest.
The Virgin Jungle Reserve that is located not far from this recreational forest provides opportunity for educational and research purposes.
The main plant species that could be found are meranti melantai, meranti langgong and meranti tembaga.
